Can you remember a time when you felt tired … dragging … like you were walking through water? OR – can you NOT recall a time when you DIDN’T feel that way?!
When people are feeling run down, it’s often because their immune system is overworked. In every human body, the immune system is constantly in action maintaining the body and repairing the damage caused by exposure, substances, stresses, noises, etc. Eye tearing, mucous production, swollen glands and digestive processes are examples of immune system activity. And in this toxic world in which we live, sometimes we ask our immune systems to do too much. Depending on how hard you ask it to work, your immune system may break down and you get sick. “Sick” can happen in degrees. It can be a general feeling of sluggishness … or a cold … or cancer.
Be A Pal To Your Immune System
Your immune system does not operate in a vacuum. Keep in mind that your actions have an impact on how well your immune system can keep you well. Remember all that advice you heard from Mom: eat well, get enough rest, take your vitamins, drink plenty of water. It still applies. But with our food supply and the air we breathe increasingly laden with toxins, conscious choices need to be made about minimizing their intake and helping your body get rid of them in order to maintain health.
Some suggestions:
- Clean yourself out periodically (e.g., juice fast, herbal program). Just like cleaning out your closet, this is a great way to jumpstart your system and your psyche.
- reduce exposure as best you can.
- Don’t ever stop exercising and eating well.
- Cut down on coffee (to reduce your intake of both caffeine and xanthins),
- Avoid fast foods.
- Practice meditation/prayer to strengthen the mind/body/spirit connection that’s so crucial to wellness.
At DCIW, we use gentle, non-invasive methods to assess the state of your immunity and recommend a course of treatment that is natural and incremental.
